I've treated my 3 month old kitten with advantage and he still has fleas...what next?

I'm afraid he's infested my house but I don't know how to check. Would I have bites on my back? Can I carry fleas? Today I washed him with Dawn dish washing liquid and it looks like they're staying on is head and chin. I don't know what to do...I don't want to hurt him.
