I think someone hacked into my grandma's email?

For the past couple of days I've been getting emails from "her" BUT I HIGHLY doubt she would send newsletters about Viagra and sleeping drugs(they look like virus infested sites). I called her and she said she hasn't logged into her email for over a month. Could she be a victim of hacking?
