Rattlesnake Venom potency?

I'm pretty sure snake venom exposed is deadly for a few days, the snakes head (even after death with venom still in its fangs can last a very long time though). a detergent and water should wash away the venom but just to be sure I would wear gloves and not touch it with any open cuts.
